Why we believe what we believe

Back in November the men (and some women) of RealtyOne participated in the annual tradition of growing a moustache in support of prostate cancer. We had a lot of fun and got to see some amazing and some terrible facial hair in the process. We raised what we could, and decided that instead of donating the money to a foundation or charity, we would instead give the money directly to a family member of one of are own, who has been living with prostate cancer for some time now. We were happy to do so, and recently we recieved the following letter. With the writer's and family's permission we would like to share this letter, as it is a testament to how much we believe in helping real people. Names have been omitted for privacy reasons, but the message rings load and clear.

Realy One Colleagues,

Prostate cancer, like any cancer, is a life opening experience. I would like to thank all of you for your generous contribution. As you may be aware, this cancer prevnted me from working as it is an advanced cancer. Over the past years, treatments have affected my health. To date, my oncologist doctors have been able to control it but unfortunately, the cancer has returned after every treatment. I have not yet been able to conquer it and therefore I have not been in remission since it was discovered.

To let you know, I will use the funds to purchase some eyeglasses, something I've needed for some time. Over time my vision my vision has deteriorated so it is an opportune time to purchase glasses for distance and reading. It is due to your generous contribution that I'm able to do it at this time, so I'm scheduling an optometrist appointment and vision care purchase next week with the funds you provided.

When (RealtyOne) presented me with the cheque it brought me to tears. It is so nice to see people who care, and to know there are good people in this world ready to help those in difficult times. You've made my day, my year, and given me a real boost to my morale.

I cannot thank you enough and I appreciate it so much. You people are Number 1 in my books, my friends.

God bless all of you.

We here at RealtyOne could not be more touched by this letter. Our hearts go out to the writer, and we are genuinely proud to be a small part in your life. We wish you nothing but health and happiness, and thank you for sharing your thoughts, and for allowing us to share your story with others. Our hope is that this letter will show others how even the smallest gesture can mean so much.
